Did you ever go to school? If you did, you would have known that what today is called Turkey used to be the heart of the Byzantine Empire with Constantinople as its capital. The vast majority of the population in Asia Minor was Greek and Greeks had settled there thousands of years ago. Until 1922 Greeks inhabited Asia Minor (Present day Turkey) when they were forced to leave their homelands during the population exchange between Greece and Turkey . Historically, Greeks, not only lived in what is present day Greece, but also in Asia Minor (present day Turkey) and Cyprus. Arab classical music is based on Byzantine music which in turn is based on Ancient Greek Music. Byzantine music is eastern and traditional Greek music is a descendant of Byzantine music.
